We’re proud to share that Dan Abeln, our Healthcare Director and Principal at EAPC Architects Engineers, was recently featured in Finance & Commerce in an article titled “Autism clinics reshape medical office real estate market.”
The piece explores how the growing demand for autism treatment is influencing medical office real estate trends nationwide—particularly in high-demand markets like the Twin Cities.
As both a healthcare design leader and a board member for MAC Midwest, Dan offered expert insight into the unique spatial needs of autism clinics, the pressures this growth places on traditional healthcare facilities, and the balance between nonprofit and private equity-backed providers in this evolving landscape.
“We’re seeing continued growth in outpatient autism services. Most of these therapy spaces (counseling rooms, group therapy, occupational therapy) are pretty adaptable to existing building stock,” said Dan.
He also noted that while private equity is helping fuel expansion in suburban areas, nonprofit providers continue to play a critical role in serving underserved communities, particularly in urban areas with greater need.
This article underscores how healthcare design is evolving to meet changing demands, and we’re honored to have Dan’s voice contributing to this important conversation.
