Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Arts & Cultural Center
Innovative Cultural Center to Offer Immersive Educational Experiences
The master plan for the museum design aims to house and display the cultural artifacts of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate of the Lake Traverse Reservation. The museum will feature storage and display spaces, trails, educational opportunities, prairie and native ecological restoration, buffalo viewing, and an outdoor performance and event venue. It will offer educational opportunities about indigenous history and landscape connections through storytelling. Artists will exhibit their work both within the cultural center and outdoors. The project will include large and medium gathering spaces and plazas for events and education, providing areas for interpretation, rest, relaxation, and immersive educational programming. This project seeks to connect visitors and community members to the land and culture through educational stories and experiences, deeply honoring tribal identities.
