Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative Washhouse and Carbonation Station
Optimized Beet Washhouse and Carbonation Enhancements Improve Factory Performance
A preliminary engineering study was conducted to redesign the beet washhouse and upgrade the carbonation system at a 13,000 ton-per-day factory. The existing washhouse, which caused excessive sugar loss due to long flume times, was replaced with a simplified system featuring a roller spray table and new belt conveyor to minimize flume time. For the carbonation system, five new combination tanks, a prelimer, and a thickener were added to address capacity issues. The study provided equipment recommendations, structural upgrades, and cost estimates to help the owner secure funding for the project.
