Black Hills Power Inc. Neil Simpson Complex Compressed Air System Upgrade

Compressed Air System Advances Reliability and Capacity at Power Station

To improve system reliability and meet future capacity needs, upgrades were made to the compressed air system at the Neil Simpson Complex, a coal-fired power station. The project involved installing two new water-cooled centrifugal air compressors, oil mist eliminators, and multiple air receivers to support high-demand users. New master controllers were added to manage the air nets, and an automated valve was installed to control airflow between systems. EAPC provided engineering, design, project management, and construction support, including the development of specifications, bidding, and as-built drawings of the updated system.
