Waste Heat Recovery System Optimizes Turbine Efficiency
To improve efficiency and reduce turbine derating, a new system was implemented to use waste heat from the intercooler to heat incoming combustion air, replacing the 8th stage bleed that previously reduced output by 7 MW. EAPC was engaged to review a prior study and provide engineering design services for the project. A 3D model was developed to optimize equipment layout and piping routes, along with detailed structural, electrical, and mechanical design drawings and equipment specifications. The system was commissioned in early 2016 and delivered strong performance throughout the following winter.
