Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. Ammonia Flare and Transfer System Design
Ammonia Offloading System Redesign Improves Safety and Simplifies Operations
To address safety and reliability issues in an existing ammonia offloading system, a new design was implemented to simplify operations and reduce risks. The new system is tailored for tanker truck offloading, utilizing truck-mounted pumps, and replacing the complex compressor-based method. A permanent flare was installed to manage venting during offloading and emergencies, while new transfer pumps were added to allow liquid transfer between storage tanks. EAPC provided mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering services, including developing process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and piping plans to support the safer and more efficient system.
