Caregivers: The Unsung Heroes
If you’ve ever had a caregiver in your life—whether a nurse, home health aide, family member, or even a neighbor who just seems to have a sixth sense for when you need help—you know they’re basically superheroes. And while they may not wear capes, their superpowers include boundless patience, tireless dedication, and the ability to make even the toughest days a little brighter.
On February 21, 2025, EAPC Architects Engineers would like to take a moment to celebrate National Caregivers Day, honoring the millions of individuals who provide essential care and comfort to those in need.
Who Are Caregivers?
Caregivers come in many forms, including:
- Professional caregivers – The nurses, doctors, therapists, and home health aides who make care their career.
- Family caregivers – The unpaid heroes juggling work, family, and caregiving duties all at once.
- Independent caregivers – Those hired directly by families to provide personalized care.
- Informal caregivers – Friends, neighbors, and volunteers who step up because they care.
While some caregivers receive pay, many do it out of pure love and commitment—a sacrifice that doesn’t go unnoticed.
Caregiving Facts:
- 53 million Americans provide unpaid care for a loved one.
- 27% of caregivers juggle responsibilities for both a child and an aging parent (talk about multi-tasking!).
- Women make up 61% of family caregivers—and they spend 50% more time caregiving than men.
- The average family caregiver spends $8,000 a year out of pocket on caregiving expenses.
- Caregivers often spend six full days a month assisting with daily activities like dressing, feeding, and mobility.
If you know a caregiver, odds are they’re running on caffeine, determination, and the occasional power nap—and we salute them for it.
