EAPC is excited to welcome James Van Westen to our Sioux Falls office

James earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture and a Master of Architecture from South Dakota State University. He is working towards becoming a licensed architect in the state of South Dakota.

James first gained industry experience as an Architecture Intern where he assisted in the completion of various projects. He then spent time as a Construction Laborer, coordinating phases of construction projects from inception to completion. Next, he became a Contractor and Commercial Sales Account Manager at Menards, where he compiled and cost-estimated material lists for customer projects. Most recently, James was an Architecture Intern at a Sioux Falls firm where he collaborated with owners, organizations, and local governments to help design projects.

"There is a really strong community in downtown Sioux Falls – I want to be proactive and be part of a firm that is working to be an active part in that continuing growth."

James has experience in multiple sectors, including civic, healthcare, urban design, and housing. He is excited to explore the higher education and K-12 sectors.

When asked what drew him to EAPC, James shared that he is excited about the company's room for growth and development. He is also eager to explore new technology and says EAPC feels like a firm willing to embrace the future of design.

"I have a keen interest in how artificial intelligence can help in the schematic phases of architectural projects and how it can help us be better designers, and just help with productivity in general."

In his free time, James enjoys painting, playing piano and guitar, and reading. He and his wife were recently married and are planning their honeymoon to Rome in the fall.

Welcome to EAPC, James!
